Semantically Partitioned Objects (SPOs)

When we need to store partitioned data based on certain charateristic values..

for example:- data stored in multiple identical infocubes based on year or month..

prior to BW 7.3 , we could do this by creating infocubes for each year..

and creating a multiprovider on top of it...

but in BW 7.3.. we have a infoprovider specifically for scenarios like this.. Semantically Partitioned Object(SPO).

Creating SPOs

we are going to build Semantically partitioned Infocube on top of this DSO.

we are using template of 0SD_C03 infocube... check mark ON for Semantically partitioned .. and create ...

all the dimensions, keyfigures and navigational attributes of 0SD_C03 are created, As we have given the template of 0SD_C03 while creating Infocube.

Now click on Maintain Partitions..

1 default partition is created.. give values for that partition..

I have created 3 partitions.. for 06.2013, 07.2013, 08.2013

Now click on Start Activation.

click on activation.

select standard DTP template on right panel and click on copy button.

select the DTP template we created and clickon edit button.

Select the DSO under all partitions and click on ASSIGN...

Now DTP will be created for all partitions... select all DTPs and click on GENERATE button.

we have activated all DTPs Needed... now to execute this DTP s.. select all DTP and  click on execute button.

partition1 contains data of 06.2013
partition2 contains data of 07.2013
partition3 contains data of 08.2013

  11. Hi, Thank you for the great tutorial. I just have a question. If i do partitions in Cube but I still want to report on the whole data of the cube. Do the OLAP takes first the data from the partitions to increase the performance and report on that part of the data when the query is selected for it or reporting has to be done in each of these small partitions?

    Thank you
